Synopsis: Dry Land by Ruby Rae-Spiegel follows the complicated relationship between swim teammates Amy and Ester as the girls struggle to find a way to terminate Amy’s unwanted pregnancy without telling an adult. Ester, a new girl on the swim team, grapples with the pressures of teenage athleticism and struggles to navigate her relationship to Amy. Amy struggles with upholding the front she has placed between herself and those around her as she becomes increasingly vulnerable with Ester. The play tackles issues of abortion access, queer youth, and coming of age. Harshly honest, in 90 minutes Dry Land is an intentionally tender and unflinching new work.
Content warning: staged abortion, offensive language (ableism, homophobia, racism), and mention of suicide.
